Hi Everyone,
I wanted to fill you in on some exciting news: Arts NSW have allocated substantial funding for the Arts OutWest Young Consultants project for 2011!!!!!!
Parts of 2011 project will involve: social networking, media skills training, youth radio, film documentary and photography, event design and project management and a young people’s film festival. Check out below for more info.
Overview
Young people will be given a variety of media skills and event management experience in order to develop more effective arts networks for young people across the Central West region. The Arts OutWest Young Consultants will work with Arts OutWest to develop policy and young people’s arts projects in their communities.
Project Components for 2011
1. Workshops and ongoing support to use social networking sites and online resources to provide arts information to young people. This is regarded as the most effective communication tool for young people at this point in time and online presence is essential due to the size of our region, the lack of transport and the distances involved.
2. Workshops in documentary making and support to produce a number of short film documentaries about young people in the Central West. As well as building skills, this will help develop a regional identity and give voice to the young people about their issues.
3. Workshop and ongoing support from local media professionals to develop skills in writing, media releases and photography. It is intended that both the skills developed and the relationships formed from this will help produce an increase in stories in the local media about young people’s participation and achievement in the arts.
4. Further development of radio skills. Building on the work already done in April with 2MCE, the Young Consultants will gain more experience in presenting on radio. The project will also aim to develop similar relationships and opportunities with other radio stations in the region.
5. A Young People’s Film Festival: the Young Consultants will design and project manage (with support) a film festival that highlights the work that is being produced by young people in the Central West.
This project will be a year long venture. At the most intensive level it will involve a core team of Young Consultants. By creating an effective network this will then link to a second level of participants, those young people in the communities of the Central West who then actively take part in the arts activities generated by this initiative. A third level of involvement would be those young people who use the Young Consultants network to access information about arts activity in their area.
The project is targeted at Young People, but if effective will have positive benefits for the whole community.
